Awesome place: Bratislava

Castle and old town visit in summer

Old town and Bratislave castle short trip

Walk from Bratislava city to castle & old town.

Bratislava is close to Vienna and therefore we would recommend to visit either Bratislava when you are in Vienna or vice versa. Bratislava city is actually charaterized by the soviet time with many prefab buildings and typical eastern european scenery. However, the old town and the castle are the typical spots for tourists, meaning that you don't have to care too much about the other parts of Bratislava if you are only there for a couple of hours as we were.

We have selected the shopping mall "Aupark" for our walking start. Main reason is that it offers a huge parking lot, also with many EV-charging stations (slow and fast). This is very convenient for EV-Drivers as we are. But apart from that also for all other cars it offers 2 hours of free parking and additional 2€ per hour afterwards. In the old town you are not allowed to drive with any kind of vehicle, it's only for pedestrians.

If you watch the video from the walk you will recognize the nice old scenery. The castle area is free of charge and 2 hours are more than enough to explore the area plus the gardens. There was no offer at that day to discover the castle from inside. But it seems there are some time slots which you no need to book in advance.

From there you can easily access the old town via a bridge which is crossing the "Most SNP" main raod of Bratislava. From there you can explore the old city. I tried to capture as many interesting streets as possible. I would extimate half a day for a relaxed walk through the city. I had a rest for a beer and was quite positively surprised by the prices: 2€ for 0.5 l, wow! And it was tasty as well. In one of the main tourist spots, so I most likely you will get much cheaper in the other districts of Bratislava!

As mentioned before I would summarize that 1 or 2 days are enough to explore Bratislava old town and castle. What I also realized is that it seems to be a popular place for bachelor / stag parties, especially for groups from Austria! This was a bit annoying to be honest even though I fully understand to have a lot of fun on this special day. ;)

This was roughly the tour I went in Bratislave, you will find chapter marks in the Youtube video for more details.
