"Lava falls" Hraunfossar

Location HERE
Islandic name: Hraunfossar / Barnafoss

Hraunfossar, also known as "Lava Falls," is a series of waterfalls located in the west of Iceland, near the town of Borgarnes. The falls are formed by rivulets streaming out of a lava field, hence the name. The waterfalls are not a single waterfall but many small waterfalls that flow out of the Hallmundarhraun lava field for about 900 meters. The water is crystal clear and comes from a volcanic aquifer beneath the lava field. The waterfalls are fed by a spring located about a kilometer away, called Barnafoss.

Hraunfossar is a unique and beautiful natural attraction, with the waterfalls cascading over the black lava rock into a clear blue river below. The location of the waterfall is surrounded by lush green moss and small plants, making for a striking contrast between the black lava and the green moss. The waterfall can be viewed from a boardwalk that runs along the falls.
