Awesome place: Lindau (bodensee)

Walk along famous Lindau island old town.

Visit of Lindau's old town at the Bodensee .

Lindau island

Lindau located in the Bodensee is a village in Bavaria, Germany. The island is well-known for it's unique old town giving an impressive idea how this town even looked hundreds of years ago. Presumedly the whole town is almost unchanged (apart from some refurbishing work) compared to more than 100 years ago!. Many tourists come here to have a visit from all over the world. But be careful there not so many english signs, at lease I haven't recognized that many.

I have started the walk at the Landtorbrücke and went straight to the Casino of Lindau. This location is ,of course, either for gambling such as Poker but also serves as a restaurant. I passed it and went to the eastern promenade of Lindau with a great view over the Bodensee. It was a cloudy but warm day, so also a ship cruise over the lake would have been an option.

However, I decided to go right into the old town center with its cozy coffee and restaurants. Many people were sitting outside drinking and/or eating. In the Fischergasse with the nice old buildings on the left and right side it is maybe the right time to grab an ice cream from the palour. The ice cream palor is located right next to a tunnel which shows that this building burnt down in 1337 and was rebuilt and refurbished several times. One result was the tunnel bringing you to the backyard to the "Genuss_Ladele" which is mainly an organic grocery store.

As many of typical german old cities, or european old towns in general, it was a pleasure to walk along the narrow streets, surrounded by many interesting shops. Passing the St. Stephan church and checking out the Market place with all their tourists shops and turning back to the entrance and the old wall pedestrian walk. But before that we have been to a large playground close to the train station

If you come by car you need to know that you can only enter the old town with a special permission and sometimes only with an electric car! But really close you will find a large parking lot, just before the Landtorbrücke, which tends to be occupied quite early. Alternatively you are going to find a huge parking house, also only a few meters away from the entrance.
It is also recommended to take the train directly to the island. There are several regional trains (RE3, RE7, RE70, RE75 etc.) ending here. This makes it also really convenient to come by train. Even an S-Bahn (S1) comes here.

Lindau, Bodensee, old town visit.

From Landtorbrücke to the center and back over the old town wall (Auf der Mauer).
