Müggelsee bike tour 2023

Tour by bike around the Müggelsee video

Location HERE

1 - Spreetunnel Friedrichshagen starting point

The Spreetunnel in Friedrichshagen was built in 1926 (opened 1927) and is a tunnel for pedestrians to cross the Spree river. Until 1927 a ferry was in place for that. It has some fairly steep stairs which are devided into three parts. So for older people this can be a bit challenging. Also with a bike it takes some energy to go down or up. However, there is a lane provided at the sides for bikes which makes it easier to move the bicycle but it is still not that easy, expecially for kids.

2 - Rübezahl Restaurant & Beergarden

Rübezahl in the south of the Müggelsee is a great place to take a break. It offers a Restaurant and and Beergarden. In the Beergarden you can get the usual stuff as Bratwurst, Fries, and of course tasty Beer! Be aware that this place is very busy during spring and summer when the weather is nice. But even in Winter it is worth to take a visist and just walk along the water to tank soe energy.

Next to the Rübezahl is a bigger playground which is great of course for families. During winter time it also offers a small ice skating area for which you have to pay extra.

3 - Kleiner Müggelsee

The "small" Müggelsee is right next to the Big Müggelsee (Großer Müggelsee). It's a really nice and quite place where can can either go swimming at the shown place or you can also rent a boat nearby and do a relaxing trip over the lake. There is a nice italian restaurant nearby called Trattoria di mare where you can sit right next to the water. Also the food is tasty.

4 - Neu Helgoland / Spreewiesen / Ferrystation

Ruderbootfähre F24 (10043981475)

Neu Helgoland is another greatly located restaurant with a huge terrace outside where you can just watch the boats passing by. But keep in mind that the parking spaces are really limited so maybe try to avoid most busy times if possible or come by bike. Did you know that the Berlin state public transport also offers ferry connections? So with your regular daily ticket or with the german-wide "49 Euro"-Ticket you can take a ride on the official ferry lines. That's much cheaper than taking of one the chartered boats but it does not offer nice roof decks. However, there is an one of a kind ferry in Berlin, it's the line F24, which only services from end of April to end of September and only on Saturdays, Sundays and bank holidays. It is a boat which can only carry up to 8 people but no bicycles! Currently the BVG uses the boat "Paule III" called after the ferrman who was transporting pedestrians from 1978 - 2002.

5 - Neu Venedig / New Venice

Neu Venedig is an area in Köpenick which you can better arrive by boat than by car. Neu-Venedig was established in the 1920s as a vacation spot for Berliners who were looking for a place to escape the city and enjoy the natural surroundings. Today, it is primarily a residential area with around 1,500 inhabitants.

The settlement is characterized by its unique architecture, with many of the houses built on stilts above the water. There are also several restaurants and cafes in the area that offer views of the canals and lakes.

Neu-Venedig is a popular destination for boating enthusiasts, as the waterways are navigable by small boats and canoes. In the summer, many residents and visitors enjoy swimming and sunbathing on the shores of the lakes.

Overall, Neu-Venedig offers a peaceful and scenic escape from the hustle and bustle of the city, making it a popular destination for both locals and tourists alike.

6 - Fisch-Borke restaurant & Strandbad Müggelsee

The Fisch-Borke Restaurant (Usually just called "Borke") is not only a place to eat and drink. It is also a place to sit down and relax and watch the sun set. It is a little bit hidden but actually it is right next to the Strandbad Müggelsee at Fürstenwalder Damm. See HERE

The Strandbad Müggelsee (Beach area of Müggelsee) is currently under renovation and deserved for decades a beach for the Berliners to escape from the city. The beach can still be used for free and is accessible over the normal entry. However, there are currently no services such as toilets, shops etc. You can go over to the Fisch-Borke which opened up a walking connection to the beach.
