Valencia is what I would call a typical spanish city. The old town gives a nice charme for passed centuries and culture. But in the suburbs you see the urgently built structure which now suffers under the amount of traffic. However, starting the trip at one of the main spots, the local market hall, you can reach every sight within minutes. The local market hall offers you fresh grocery with good prices.
Most of the places have been transformed into car and bike free places. So I would recommend to come by public transport rather than by car. We took a parking lot, directly next to the market, and paid 3 euro per hour. But to be honest, next time I would think about it even though of course it quite convenient to leave the city after a long walk by car.
Apart from that I need to say I was really impressed by Valencia! Quite a lot of places to have a nice Tapas, or only a drink. The prices are still lower average for Europe! It was really clean and peaceful! You can almost feel the proudness of the people of Valencia of their nice old town!
An on-going issue is the water supply. Valencia suffered a lot unter water shortage and it's getting worse and worse! The Turia river has been diverted already decades ago and rest area and park has been created. On one hand this is of course a nice new area where all the inhabitants of Valencia can relax but on the other hand you can see also the drought areas of the Turia river which have not been regenerated.
